We have lots of exciting updates to share today!
First, we are delighted to welcome two new staff members to Hirsh! Cory Balon has joined us as our full-time Reference Assistant, and Katie Hutchinson has joined us as our part-time Reference Assistant. They each bring a wealth of library and customer service experience, and we are excited to have them join us at the Service Desk!
Next, it is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirements of two long-standing colleagues on August 31. We will be bidding farewell to Eric Albright, our Director, and Amy Lapidow, our Head of Access Services and our liaison to the PT, PA, and MBS programs. Neither Eric nor Amy is particularly fond of fanfare, so we will simply say that their contributions to Hirsh have been immemsurable, and they will be sorely missed. We wish them both all the very best in retirement!
In light of these retirements, we also have several promotions and organizational changes to announce.
Starting September 1:
- Kelly Faulkner, our current Associate Director, will become our Interim Director.
- Judy Rabinowitz, Research & Instruction and Scholarly Communications Librarian and Head of Interlibrary Loan, will become Assistant Director of Scholarly Engagement & User Services, providing leadership for the department formerly known as Access Services.
- Jane Natches, currently our Head of Collections, will assume leadership of Interlibrary Loan while continuing her stewardship of our collections. With this addition, she will become Assistant Director of Collections & Resource Sharing.
- Paige Scudder, currently our Educational Technology Librarian, will become our Digital Learning Librarian. She will remain the liaison to MPH, and Amy Lapidow’s liaison groups—PT, PA, and MBS—will now be in her capable hands. In her redefined role, Paige will be able to give particular attention to how the library can best serve our online and hybrid programs.
We are excited to welcome our new colleagues, celebrate the accomplishments of those stepping into new roles, and wish Eric and Amy a relaxing retirement. We are so grateful for the people who make our library such a wonderful community!
