If you're anything like me, your Halloween decorations went up sometime in early September, but even if you don't start thinking about Halloween until October 30th rolls around, you can still read a spooky book anytime of the year. We at Hirsh are already beginning to feel the fall spirit, and have selected some titles for you to browse to either get you in the Halloween spirit for bigger celebrations, or to give you all the scares you need this season.

Here are some of our selections:

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (the original haunted house novel, eerie and brilliant)

All Things Cease to Appear by Elizabeth Brundage (a gothic thriller and intriguing murder mystery)

Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice (romantic, creepy, and intense all at once--a classic)

Our Shadows Have Claws edited by Yamile Saied Mendez and Amparo Ortiz (an anthology of Latin American monster stories)

Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz (a thriller featuring ghosts and a psychic line cook)

Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher (an otherworldly quest, and a very unusual fairy tale)

Joyland by Stephen King (a nightmarish amusement park)

The Drowning Girl by Caitlin R. Kiernan (a young woman must determine if the visions she sees are real)

Jaws by Peter Benchley (not supernatural but come on, it's still a giant shark)

The Last Seance by Agatha Christie (a collection of chilling and mysterious ghost stories from the queen of mystery herself)

The House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (a twisty and confusing haunted house story)

Dracula by Bram Stoker (the original vampire himself, and a great place to start if you're not caught up on Dracula Daily .

So stop on by the fourth floor leisure lounge if you dare!
