The Library’s Guide to the Printers

By Rachel Partington on July 7, 2026

While Tufts switches printer and printer services vendors this summer, Hirsh Library has some tips for how to get your materials printed. We know how stressful printing can be, particularly when time is of the essence, so read on for the best guide to printing during this transition period!

  • Start at the public access computers. During this changeover, IT Services has connected the public access computers on the 4th and 5th floors to their respective floors’ printers. All you have to do is select the material from your cloud drive, external drive, or email, and hit “ctrl + p”.
  • Printing is free right now. In order to offset the uncertainty and change in procedure, we are not charging for printing at this time. We want the process to be as easy for you as it can be.
  • Put your name on it. If a Pharos screen pops up asking for your name or username, you can input your Tufts username, or your first name and last initial. Putting in a job name can also be helpful if a librarian needs to look up your print job.
  • Talk to the library service desk. Any staff at the desk would be happy to assist you if your job does not print. We are open from 7:45am-11pm Monday through Thursday, 7:45am-7pm on Fridays, 10am-7pm on Saturdays, and 12-10pm on Sundays. Please come see us if your job isn’t printing during this time.
  • Don’t panic! The printers may “[look] insanely complicated” (Adams, 1979, p.27), but with a little patience, and some help from the library staff, you’ll have your pages printed and will be off to your next adventure.

If you do have questions and we are not staffing the desk, please email hhsl@tufts.edu. Thank you for your patience and collaboration during this changeover!
