Library History

For over 50 years there has been a medical and health sciences library serving the Tufts University Medical School. It has had many names and locations over the years, starting with simply the “Medical Library,“ which was located  off of Huntington Avenue. It was also briefly known as the Chenery Memorial Library before being named the Tufts Medical and Dental Library in 1973 while located at 136 Harrison Avenue. When the library moved to its current home at 145 Harrison Avenue, it was again renamed to the Health Sciences Library and then was dedicated in 2005 as Hirsh Health Sciences Library. For decades, the library has also served the staff and clinicians at Tufts Medical Center, which was previously known as the New England Medical Center.
